KPAA Marks Completion of Mission Beach Apartments

SAN DIEGO, California – Recently KPA Associates, Inc.’s principals Thomas Jenkins and Bayless Cobb AIA led colleagues from the 17-person architectural firm on a tour of four beachfront rental apartments designed by Jenkins. Construction began on the project, located at 3751 and 3753 Ocean Front Walk in Mission Beach, in January 2008 and was completed in late March 2009. Owner/general contractor Cameron Brothers Construction, LLC of Santee hired A. Vidovich Construction of Lakeside to act as prime sub-contractor. Jenkins designed the project and guided it through the local and California Coastal Commission permitting process.

The 10,191 square foot project comprises a pair of three-story buildings flanking a landscaped open courtyard. Each residence has 4 bedrooms and from 2 -1/2 to 3-1/2 bathrooms. “All the rooms and exterior decks were designed to be spacious enough to host large gatherings of families and friends,” said KPAA’s Jenkins. In response to the rigors of the site's marine environment, Jenkins used a palette of resilient materials such as copper and stainless steel in the design of the building exteriors. Units are equipped with elevators and extra-wide doorways for enhanced accessibility.

Jenkins and KPA Associates president Bayless Cobb have designed several other beachfront projects in Mission Beach over the past 25 years. The Bankers Hill firm provides complete architectural services and construction consulting. In addition, the firm specializes in forensic architecture, providing architectural expert witness testimony in construction defect litigation and other building disputes.
